A Croatian artist with a Paris address, Davor Vrankić, is a drawing star. The I Promise You a Miracle exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art is Vrankić’s largest exhibition in Croatia to date. It features works from the beginning of his career in the early 1990s to new drawings created just before this exhibition in Zagreb.
Without a sketch and a template, Vrankić creates drawings with impressively large dimensions so that, like living entities, he “spontaneously feeds upon all possible, new visual experiences.” And these visual experiences with Vrankić have been very broad, ranging from comics and underground culture, studying the jackets of records, listening to avant-garde sounds, and immersing himself in the expressiveness of silent and classic films, until upon his arrival in Paris, he found a spiritual kinship with the Old Masters.
The result is phantasmagoric worlds that reflect what the artist calls “personal realism.” Vrankić plays with the perception of the observer, or as he says, “What we see at one point seems close to us, and at another, it becomes foreign and strange.”

Un artista croata con domicilio en París, Davor Vrankić, es una estrella del dibujo. La exposición Te prometo un milagro en el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo es la exposición más grande de Vrankić en Croacia hasta la fecha. Presenta obras desde el comienzo de su carrera a principios de la década de 1990 hasta nuevos dibujos creados justo antes de esta exposición en Zagreb.
Sin un boceto y una plantilla, Vrankić crea dibujos con dimensiones impresionantemente grandes para que, al igual que las entidades vivientes, “se alimente espontáneamente de todas las nuevas experiencias visuales posibles”. Y estas experiencias visuales con Vrankić han sido muy amplias, desde cómics y cultura underground, estudiando los archivos de discos, escuchando sonidos de vanguardia y sumergiéndose en la expresividad de las películas mudas y clásicas, hasta su llegada a París, Encontró un parentesco espiritual con los Viejos Maestros.
