The Villa Vassilieff art and creation center located in the Montparnasse area presents an exhibition dedicated to the experimental cinema of the Mexican filmmaker Teo Hernández. The exhibition is curated by Mexican Andrea Ancira.

T H E A R T I S T (1939-1992)
Founder of large independent film centers such as the Experimental Center of Cinematography in Mexico and the group MétroBarbesRochechour Art (1980) in Paris, Teo Hernández left Mexico at a young age and like many artists, he settled in Paris in 1966. Here he would make a name in the groups of the underground cinema in the Parisian culture.
With his Super 8, Hernández documented for several years his travels and experiences in different locations such as London, Morocco, Denmark, India, Nepal and Greece.
His work is inseparable from his life. In this exhibition, we are able to see his poems and writings narrate by him and the series of images and videos he filmed. Hernández creates a mythical story with a spiritual background in relation to his status as a foreigner and nomad of life.
T H E P L A C E
The Villa Vassilieff owes its name to the Russian artist and sculptor Marie Vassilieff, a student of Henri Matisse, who installed his atelier in Montparnasse in the 1910s. The place has seen the passing of great artists such as Picasso, Soutine and Chagall who got together in an artistic and cultural committee over the past century.
Thanks to the help from Bétonsalon-Center d’art et de Recherche, Villa Vassilieff reopened its doors in 2016, replacing the Musée du Montparnasse (1992-2013). The Pernod Ricard Fellowship scholarship allows the residents (four artists), curators or international researchers per year to finance their projects presented at Villa Vassilieff.
The Mexican Andrea Ancira, the curator of the exhibition Teo Hernández-Éclater les apparences, undertook the task of bringing this forgotten artist to light and putting in value her experimental work as a body of deep thought.
During the exhibitions, the Villa Vassilieff has a workspace with a coffee/ bar on the upper floor!

El centro de arte y creación Villa Vassilieff situado en el barrio de Montparnasse presenta una exposición dedicada al cine experimental francés del mexicano Teo Hernández con la comisaría de Andrea Ancira.

Fundador de grandes centros cinematográficos independientes como el Centro Experimental de Cinematografía en México o el grupo MétroBarbesRochechour Art (1980) en París, Teo Hernández dejó México y como muchos artistas, se instaló en París en 1966 en donde se haría un nombre en los grupos de cine underground de la capital parisina.
Con su Super 8, Hernández filmó durante varios años sus viajes y experiencias en localidades diferentes como Londres, Marruecos, Dinamarca, India, Nepal y Grecia.
Su obra es indisociable de su vida. Poemas y escritos en su voz narran la serie de imágenes y videos que filma. En ellas, Hernández se crea una especie de historia mítica con un fondo espiritual en relación a su estatus como extranjero y nomada de vida.
E L L U G A R
La Villa Vassilieff debe su nombre a la artista y escultora rusa Marie Vassilieff, alumna de Henri Matisse, quien instaló su atelier en el barrio de Montparnasse en los años 1910.
El lugar ha visto pasar a grandes artistas como Picasso, Soutine y Chagall quienes se reunían en comité artístico y cultural a lo largo del siglo pasado.
Gracias al financiamiento de Bétonsalon-Centre d’art et de Recherche, la Villa Vassilieff abrió nuevamente sus puertas en 2016, reemplazando el Musée du Montparnasse (1992-2013).
La beca Pernod Ricard Fellowship permite la residencia a cuatro artistas, conservadores o investigadores internacionales por año para financiar un proyecto presentado en la Villa Vassilieff.
La mexicana Andrea Ancira, curadora de la exposición Teo Hernández-Éclater les apparences, se dio la tarea de sacar a la luz a este artista olvidado, y poner en valor su trabajo experimental como un cuerpo de pensamiento profundo.
Durante las exposiciones, la Villa Vassilieff tiene un espacio de trabajo con café/bar en la parte superior!
