For the first time the work of Japanese artist Daīchi Mori, on the occasion of a collaborative exhibition with the French-Colombian video artist Nieto in Paris. Japonisme.

I was lucky enough to come across this exhibition while my husband and I were taking a stroll around Paris, as we often do. The darkness of the outside of the gallery and the rays of red lights coming out from inside reflecting heavily through the windows is what caught our attention. Upon entering we could not believe what we had just found!
– Fabrics hanging from the ceiling with randomly projected acid like images of Japanese drawings. Colours and light exploding everywhere with emotion and intensity. It was such a cool discovery, we had so much fun, too bad it is only up for a couple of days more… until the 12th of January.
T H E S E C R E T A R T I S T
Nieto is a Colombian director, plastic artist and filmmaker. Daīchi Mori is a self-taught cartoonist.
During a recent trip to the Nipponese archipelago, Nieto heard about the subversive talent of this ascetic artist who secretly produces both ambitious and disconcerting pictorial work. Nieto was given several original artworks in order to exhibit them in France. Impressed by the quality of this endowment, he offered to make a portrait of the artist in the form of a short documentary. This unconventional film, shot not without trouble, will be screened exclusively during the exhibition.
T H E E X P O
« Devouring the universe, defecating an ant » is an enduring manga of the emaki type (hand painted picture scroll with a horizontal narration) to which Mori has been devoting himself for many years. Drawing inspiration from the Japanese folkloric bestiary, Mori develops in the course of his works a labyrinthine and nonconformist cosmogony to which Nieto comes adding his own skill in terms of scenography and video animation.
They together had put up an amazing expo in the heart of Paris that takes you miles away to the strange and unexpected scenarios that are taking place in the mind of these incredible artists.

Tuve la suerte de conocer esta exposición mientras mi esposo y yo caminábamos por París, como solemos hacer. La oscuridad de la galería y los rayos de luces rojas que salían del interior se reflejaban fuertemente a través de las ventanas, esto es lo que llamó nuestra atención. Al entrar no podíamos creer lo que acabábamos de encontrar;
– Telas que cuelgan del techo donde se proyectan al azar imágenes de dibujos japoneses e imágenes ácidas de los mangaka. Colores y luces que explotan por doquier, con emoción e intensidad. Fue un descubrimiento tan genial, nos divertimos mucho, tanto que solo duró un par de días más … hasta el 12 de enero.

Niet es un director colombiano, artista plástico y cineasta. Daīchi Mori es un dibujante autodidacta. Durante un reciente viaje al archipiélago nipón, Nieto escuchó hablar del talento subversivo de este artista ascético que produce en secreto obras pictóricas ambiciosas y desconcertantes.
