Francis Alÿs is a Belgian/Mexican artist. He was born in Belgium but he made his most important artistic projects in Mexico City. Fascinated by everyday life in the city, he started recording and adding elements to his journeys around this megalopolis making incredible and simple videos.
THE EXPO
He has been travelling around the world to accomplish this project. The exhibition is a compilation of videos featuring children playing knucklebones in Nepal (Children’s Games 18 / Knucklebones, Kathmandu, Nepal, March 2017). In other videos, children kick a bottle up a steep street in Mexico City, play roughly with crickets in Venezuela, fly kites in Afghanistan, and ricochet stones on the sea near Tangier in Morocco.
THE EXPERIENCE
Being Mexican I quickly recognized some of the games, this brought life memories of my childhood. Very sweet memories. His videos are full of joy and freedom which give the whole room a sensation of peace and space. In the countries where they were filmed the weather is hot for the most part of the year, children play outside in the fields, in the streets or next to the sea. They are amused with very little and they get creative with anything they can find on their way.
A very satisfying expo that will help you let go of your day and take time to contemplate the simplicity and innocence of children’s play.

Children’s games es una experiencia inmersiva en el mundo de los niños. Una recopilación de cortometrajes repartidos por el Museo Filmeye te transportá al pasado.
Francis Alÿs es un artista belga / mexicano. Nació en Bélgica pero realizó sus proyectos artísticos más importantes en la Ciudad de México. Fascinado por la vida cotidiana en la ciudad, comenzó a grabar y agregar elementos a sus viajes por esta megalópolis creando visuales fascinantes.
LA EXPO
Él ha estado viajando alrededor del mundo para lograr este proyecto. La exposición es una recopilación de videos que muestran a niños jugando con los nudillos en Nepal (Juegos para niños 18 / Knucklebones, Katmandú, Nepal, marzo de 2017). En otros videos, los niños patean una botella en una calle empinada en la Ciudad de México, juegan con grillos en Venezuela, vuelan cometas en Afganistán y rebotan piedras en el mar cerca de Tánger en Marruecos.
LA EXPERIENCIA
Siendo mexicana, reconocí rápidamente algunos de los juegos, esto me trajo recuerdos de mi infancia. Muy dulces recuerdos. Sus videos están llenos de alegría y libertad que le dan a toda la habitación una sensación de paz y tranquilidad. En los países donde fueron filmados, el clima es cálido durante la mayor parte del año, los niños juegan afuera en los campos, en las calles o al lado del mar. Se divierten con muy poco y se vuelven creativos con todo lo que pueden encontrar en su camino.
Una exposición muy satisfactoria que lo ayudará a dejar su día atras y tomarse el tiempo para contemplar la simplicidad y la inociencia del juego infantil.
